Student Opportunity Scholarships, Inc. was incorporated on April 22, 1966. Its original trustees were Ezra Stotland, Eugene Clinton Elliott, Robert B. Heilman, Charles W. Bodemer, Julius Roller, Robert O. Sylvester, and James B. Wilson. Their purpose was to assist, promote, and further education, scientific research, and educational instruction on behalf of the University of Washington by acting as a receiver and allocator of private funds.
