Tape-recorded interview with Albert Grosse and Ray LaVene in 1983.

Darby Silverberg recorded this interview with Al Grosse (Side A) and Ray LaVene (Side B) in the course of a genealogical search. His father was Sam Silberberg [sic], a resident of the communal settlement of Home in Kitsap County. He interviewed Grosse in West Seattle and LaVene in Inglewood, Calif. The interview tells why Jews came to Home due to their interest in anarchism. There was no organized Jewish life there but there was also no discrimination for being Jewish. Grosse mentions many names including Emma Goldman and also talks about the Mutual Home Association and the nude bathing incident as well as free love. Industries included raising chickens, gathering eggs, picking berries, and gathering brush. He tells how the first settlers did not want to be on the waterfront but wanted land to farm. Darby received first hand information about his grandfather and stepgrandfather, Sam and Rosie Silverberg.
