The Gay and Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest (GLAPN) was established in Portland, Oregon, by Tom Cook in the early 1990s. Since then the organization has collected archival materials and oral histories from organizations and individuals active in lesbian and gay issues in the Portland area and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
The collection includes brochures, newsletters, press releases and other materials produced by a wide variety of community, religious, and social service organizations actively supporting the gay and lesbian community of Portland and the State of Oregon during the early to mid-1990s. The vast majority of materials concern Portland and the State of Oregon, but there are a small number of organizations represented from Idaho and Washington and on a national level. Also included are materials from political campaigns by local LGBT politicians, and organizations in opposition of Ballot Measure 13 and the Oregon Citizens Alliance.
Additional audio and video materials have been sent to the Oral History and Moving Image collections.
The materials are arranged by topic.
The collection is open to the public.
The Oregon Historical Society is the owner of the materials in the Research Library and makes available reproductions for research, publication, and other uses. Written permission must be obtained from the Research Library prior to any use of reproductions. The Society does not necessarily hold copyright to all the materials in the collections. In some cases, permission for use of reproductions may require seeking additional authorization from the copyright holders.
