Lemuel Evans Boren (1879-1961) served in the infantry in Cuba and in the Philippine Islands, was appointed inspector in the Philippine Constabulary in 1901, promoted to major, and resigned in 1909. The collection (1899-1920) contains diaries, a monograph, military records, certificates, photographs, correspondence, and other papers.

Historical NoteReturn to Top

Lemuel Evans Boren (1879-1961) was born in Short Mountain, Tennessee. Boren enlisted in the 4th Tennessee Infantry, U.S.V., 1898, and in the 38th Infantry, U.S.V., 1899. He served in Cuba and in the Philippine Islands. In 1901, he was appointed inspector in the Philippine Constabulary. He was promoted to major, and resigned in 1909.

The collection (1899-1920) contains diaries, a monograph, military records, certificates, photographs, correspondence, and other papers.

The diaries (1903-1911) cover his Constabulary service. Photographs are primarily family pictures and infant photos, circa 1900.

The correspondence covers 1899 to 1951.

Military information and records include a report of operations, a document titled, "Government of Moro Province - Executive Order," and a report titled, "Reglamento con caracter de la y los moros Maguindanao, sobre Casamientos." The monograph written by Boren is about the constabulary and Lanao Province. The certificates include tax certificates from Manila and Paragua, Philippines.
