Historical NoteReturn to Top

Barbara "Bea" Williams was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on New Year's Day, 1925, to Walter Wright (a lawyer) and Emily Jeremy Wright (a homemaker). She was a kindergarten reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune's children's section, edited by Olive Burt. She was awarded a B.A. in English at the University of Utah prior to marrying John Daniel (J. D.) Williams and moving to Washington D. C. The Williams family returned to Utah in 1952 when J. D. accepted a position with the University of Utah's Political Science department. In addition to earning an M. A. in English from the University of Utah (1972) and raising a family, Williams has published over fifty books.
