Historical NoteReturn to Top

A Clinical Atlas of Venereal & Skin Diseases including Diagnosis, Prognosis & Treatment by Robert W. Taylor, M.D. was published in Philidelphia in 1889 and includes 192 illustrations. The Edinburgh Stereoscopic Atlas of Obstetrics and The Edinburgh Stereocopic Atlas of Anatomy were both published in London in 1905. The Atlas of Obstetrics, edited by G.F. Barbour Simpson, M.D. and Edward Burnet, M.B. with a preface by Professor Sir J. Halliday Croom, M.D., covers twenty-five subjects and is divided into four sections. The content list/preface pamphlet was included with the Atlas of Obstetrics. The Atlas of Anatomy, edited by David Waterson, M.D., is divided into five sections and the content list/preface pamphlet was not included. Due to the extremely poor condition of the containers, both titles were removed and placed within archival folders, each labeled with their corresponding sections. Both Atlases consist of 7 x 9 inch cards, each with descriptive information and stereoscopic slides. A stereoscopic slide is made up of two photographs placed side by side and creates the illusion of a singular image with depth when viewed through a stereoscope. A stereoscope from 1900 is included in this collection.
