Historical NoteReturn to Top

Frank A. Davey originally owned most of the land that became Garnet, Montana, a booming gold camp located in present day Granite County. By 1898 Davey was the owner of a grocery store in Garnet. He was perhaps the most well known resident of Garnet as he the operated the Honeymoon Cabin, built on a Davey claim by a bachelor miner. Soon after the miner vacated the cabin Davey began renting it out to newlyweds, hence the name.

Many residents left the mining camp in 1916 in the midst of World War I. Davey stayed to keep his store open for the few people who remained in Garnet. Frank A. Davey was the last permanent resident and his death in 1947 signified another mining boom town turned ghost town

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The F.A. Davey collection consists of two reels of microfilm. The first reel of microfilm begins with an accounts receivable ledger dating from 1905 to 1906 and two day books. The first day book contains data from 1 February 1909 to 29 April 1909. The last day book is only filmed through page 198. The dates are unknown on the second book due to the reel ending. These day books contain the name of the customer, what he or she purchased, and how much this person owed. The day books list purchases made in the store each day, cash or credit. Reel two consists of two day books. The first day book dates from 6 February 1899 to 28 June 1899. The second covers the year of 1902.
