Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Zollie Volchok (September 22, 1916-February 26, 2012) grew up in Salem, Oregon. He served in the Navy in the War Bond Department working with the Hollywood Victory Committee. Volchok moved to Seattle in 1946 to work as general manager for John Danz Theaters, then formed Northwest Releasing, a talent agency, with his partner Jack Engerman from 1952-1969. Volchok served as general manager of the Seattle Supersonics and was awarded NBA Executive of the Year Award in 1983. He was an active member of Variety Club International.

Scope and Content: Oral history interview conducted by Arny Robbins on August 8, 2000. Volchok discusses the Jewish community in Salem, Oregon and his founding of the Mickey Mouse Club there at the age of 13. He recounts managing the Sterling Theaters in Seattle, co-founding and operating his own booking agency called Northwest Releasing, and his work with Variety Club International and the Seattle Supersonics.
