The Charles James Neal papers (1911-1991) consists of documents and souvenirs pertaining to Neal's discoveries and experiences while living in Utah. Neal, who was born in Beloit, Kansas, in 1883, was responsible for constructing the first telephone lines in the Uintah Basin. Neal also discovered the first traces of Gilsonite in Fort Duschesne, Utah, and later managed the plant where the resource was mined. Several short histories about the Neal family can be found in folder 2 and a yearbook, the St. Mary's Annual, which contains pictures and essays written by Neal's two daughters, is in folder 3. Articles pertaining to Neal can be found in folders 4-6, as well as news clippings and miscellaneous documents.
