Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Office of the President at Central Washington University originated with the appointment of a Principal for Washington State Normal School by the Board of Trustees in the fall of 1891. The title of Principal was changed to President in 1914 and continues in use to the present day.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The files in this collection contain a 1989 Central Washington University self-study report, response and action plans for the implementation of campus climate recommendations (1998), a university procedures manual (1989), policies on naming buildings (1960-1991) and reports and plans regarding faculty governance issues (1998). Included in the collection are Board of Trustee resolutions from 1969 to 1980.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
