Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Eugene S. Hunn is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Washington. During his professional career, he has conducted ethnobiological research in Mexico with Mayan people in Chiapas and Zapotec people in the Sierra Sur of Oaxaca and with Sahaptin people in the Columbia Plateau of the Pacific Northwest.

Scope and Content: Interview with Mary Jim, Wapato, Wash., conducted by Eugene Hunn on 22 Mar 1979. Mary Jim, a Yakima Indian of Snake River-Priest Rapids extraction and a Sahaptin speaker, discusses traditional foods, village sites, and subsistence patterns. James Selan assists in the interview.

Scope and Content: Typescript gazetteer of place names in Sahaptin language with English translations; 1995. Hunn assembled the ethnography with the assistance of James G. Selam, who interviewed numerous relatives about place names.
