Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Raymond Symeon Docter (1917-2012) was born in Syracuse, New York and came to Seattle with his parents in 1927. He attended North-end schools and graduated from the University of Washington. After several career changes, he became a teacher and taught at Laurelhurst Elementary School.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Interview conducted by Ernest and Doris Stiefel. Docter discusses the Herzl Junior Guild, a social group for young Jewish adults sponsored by the Herzl Conservative Congregation in the 1930's and 1940's. Docter was an active member, serving as president in 1941. He describes the various social activities hosted by the guild and names some of the active members, most of whom belonged to Herzl.
