Historical NoteReturn to Top

Nguyen Thai Binh (1948-1972) was born in South Vietnam and attended the University of Washington from 1968-1971 under a U.S. A.I.D. scholarship. He gradually came to protest U.S. involvement in Vietnam. Asked to return home by A.I.D., he was shot and killed in July 1972 in an attempt to divert an airliner in Vietnam. His friends in the U.S. established the collection, containing papers about his life and protest activities, in an effort to memorialize him.
