Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Nathan Krems was born April 10, 1915 to parents Sarah and Solomon in Seattle, Washington. He was the oldest of 7 children, with 5 brothers and one sister.
Solomon Krems, Nathan's father, was a Polish immigrant and the publisher of the first Jewish newspaper in Seattle, the Jewish Voice . Solomon Krems learned the printing trade, as he migrated through Europe, Canada, and the United States. This was his business while he published the newspaper. Nathan also worked on the Jewish Transcript , which he edited when he was a college student in the 1930s. Nathan attended the University of Washington and earned a degree in journalism.

The collection includes prints and negatives of varying subjects. The negatives, which form the bulk of the collection, consist mainly of undeveloped rolls, some in poor condition. Some of the rolls are in canisters with writing, although in many cases it is illegible.

The prints were in deteriorated photograph envelopes which were dated from 1939-1941. Some of the prints were heavily creased and folded and have since been placed between archival board to flatten them.
