Mrs. Posner was born on the South side of Chicago where the founder of the Council of Jewish Women, Hannah Solomon, also lived. Frances joined the Seattle Section in 1949. She edited the Bulletin and was on the program committee. She was president of the Seattle Section from 1952-1954. She served as vice president of the region and as president of the region. While serving as president of the region, she became a member of the National Board where she served as assistant recording secretary. She was a member of the National Board for about 10 or 12 years.

Tape-recorded interview conducted by M. Kaplan and J. Schrieber on 8/5/75. The accession also includes a Council Bulletin.
The interview was conducted as part of the Council of Jewish Women series. Posner tells of getting the regional conference in Seattle ca. 1960. From the perspective of her leadership role, she talks about the beginning of Women in Community Service, a joint project of Council, YWCA, United Church Women, and the Catholic Women; the start of the Bonham Galland Nursery School for children of new Americans to meet children here; the problem of speaking up due to the investigations of University professors at this time which made people timid about expressing opinions; the Therapeutic Workshop which was part of the settlement program; and the financial successes of the Treasure Mart sales. Posner also talks about how Council finds a need and works to meet it, for example in the 1950's when Council supplied volunteers who were trained to work at Harborview hospital. She the tells about Golden Age as one of Council's earliest areas of research and she talks about the structure of Council and quotas.
Due to traffic noise this is a very noisy tape but it is most informative.
